Glass Repair & Replacement

If glass has broken and there are children, pets or a public footpath involved, the first job is containment, not a perfect finish.

• Don't pull out the remaining pieces. Toughened glass fragments and laminated glass held in an interlayer are both more dangerous to handle than they look. Keep people clear and call.
• Board-up or temporary glazing. We can secure the opening the same day in most cases, so the house is weatherproof and lockable while the replacement pane is made.
• Photograph before anything is cleaned up. Insurers ask for it and it is much easier now than reconstructing it later.
• Note the frame. If the frame is damaged too, the replacement is a different job — tell us on the phone so we bring the right gear.

A lot of what gets called "glass repair" is actually hardware that has worn out. It is usually cheaper and quicker than people expect.

• Sliding door rollers and tracks. The single most common call. A door that needs two hands and a shoulder almost always just needs new rollers, and sometimes a track capping.
• Shower door hinges and seals. Perished wipers and drooping hinges cause the leaks people assume mean a whole new screen. Both are replaceable.
• Failed double-glazed units. Fogging between the panes means the seal has gone. The glass unit is replaced; the frame stays.
• Re-glazing timber and aluminium frames. Old putty-glazed timber windows and aluminium frames with perished rubbers can be re-glazed rather than replaced.
